JCA Copy-Editor

Open to grads, the Copy-Editor will ensure the Journal of Cultural Analytics maintains the highest editorial standards.

The Center for Digital Humanities seeks a graduate student Copy-Editor to ensure the Journal of Cultural Analytics maintains the highest editorial standards. You will work closely with editors and authors to refine manuscript quality for publication.

Responsibilities:

  • Copyedit manuscripts for grammar, style, clarity, and consistency
  • Ensure adherence to Chicago Manual of Style, MLA style, and journal guidelines
  • Develop and maintain editorial style sheets
  • Query authors on substantive issues and ambiguities
  • Coordinate with authors on revisions
  • Format final manuscripts for publication, including LaTeX and other markup languages
  • Proofread proofs and production files
  • Contribute to evolving journal editorial standards

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, humanities, or related field
  • 2+ years of professional copyediting or editorial experience
  • Expert knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and style
  • Familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style and MLA style
  • Experience with academic or scholarly publishing
  • Proficiency with copyediting software and tools
  • Working knowledge of LaTeX formatting

Preferred Qualifications: Digital humanities background, experience editing quantitative scholarship, knowledge of humanities databases, familiarity with XML and/or HTML markup.
