Alexandra D. Sastrawati is a Ph.D. student in Anthropology. Her dissertation research examines the intersections between queerness and depression in contemporary Singapore and Japan. Her work focuses on how (1) marginalized queer artists experience and address mental health and (2) represent their affective states in quest for well-being and justice in the arts. Born and raised in Singapore, Sastrawati is currently based in Washington, D.C. and spends her summers in Asia. She holds a Master of Arts in Sociocultural Anthropology, with a Graduate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies, from the University of Texas at Austin.
