How is the rapid buildout of AI infrastructures impacting the environment? How should we think about these impacts as users (or potential users) of AI? How can librarians, scholars, and students minimize their environmental impacts if they choose to engage with AI?
Grant Wythoff (CDH) is co-chair of an Association for Computers and the Humanities (ACH) special interest group on “DH and the Environment.” In this workshop, he will introduce resources for keeping track of the rapidly evolving nature of AI’s energy use and carbon footprint. He will also report on work among librarians and scholars in groups like the Digital Humanities Climate Coalition (UK) and the Digital Library Federation’s (DLF) “Climate Justice Working Group.”
