Asia Matthews ’21 proudly hails from Jamaica, Queens. During her time at Princeton University, she majored in African American Studies on the Global Race and Ethnicity track, and pursued minors in Latin American Studies and Statistics and Machine Learning. Asia is passionate about bringing marginalized voices to the fore, and was fortunate to have been a Research Assistant in Professor Ruha Benjamin’s JUST Data Lab. Overall, Asia is devoted to marshaling data science and statistics for social justice. In the future, she hopes to attend law school, in addition to barber school because she was the founder of a beauty salon on campus. She enjoys ice skating, collecting artwork, African drumming, and learning new languages.
