John Durham Peters & Shannon Mattern in Conversation
September 21, 12:00–1:30 pm (Floor B, Firestone Library)
Join us for an unconventional conversation with media theorists John Durham Peters, María Rosa Menocal Professor of English and Professor of Film and Media Studies at Yale University, and Shannon Mattern, Penn Presidential Compact Professor of Media Studies and the History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania. Modeled as a cross-between new media -- an AMA (‘ask me anything’ event online) -- and old media (scraps of paper with single words pulled from a jar), scholars will talk through a wide range of issues having to do with media theory, the data of language, and the invisible infrastructures of our everyday interactions. Lunch will be provided. Seating is limited, so RSVPs are required.
Graduate Certificate Information Session
September 27, 2:00–3:00 pm (Floor B, Firestone Library; Zoom)
Join us to learn more about our new Graduate Certificate in Digital Humanities, as well as other CDH opportunities for graduate students. RSVP here. Zoom link: https://princeton.zoom.us/j/5153120307.
Ada Lovelace Day Graduate Mixer
October 11, 5:00–7:00 pm (Yankee Doodle Tap Room)
We invite all Princeton grad students to come raise a glass to Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer. Meet fellow grads with an interest in DH. Ask your burning questions about DH in a relaxed, friendly environment. No previous experience, tech skills, or passwords required.

October 25, 4:30–6:00 pm (Friend Center 101)
The Princeton LLM Forum is bringing together leading scholars and researchers from a variety of disciplines and fields to discuss the implications that large language models (LLMs) have on our understanding of language, society, culture, and theory of mind. Join us for our first panel, a discussion between Meredith Whittaker, president of Signal, and Arvind Narayanan, professor of Computer Science and Director of the Center for Information and Technology Policy at Princeton, about the implications of LLM technology on society.
