Olga Russakovsky (Associate Professor of Computer Science, Associate Director, AI Labs)
The AI Lab will hold a special listening session with faculty in the humanities to hear your thoughts about the future of AI at Princeton University.
As the university develops its plan for an investment in AI and data science, the AI Lab is running a planning process this semester to continue to hone the strategic vision for statistics, data science, and AI and the mechanisms by which that vision can be implemented. Based on preliminary conversations, we are interested in hearing your thoughts on the vision for statistics, data science, and AI and related fields such as machine learning and cognitive science.
The hope is to use this listening session to achieve the following:
- Articulating an intellectual vision for the area, being clear on how this vision relates to that behind existing units on campus, and how Princeton’s approach is distinctive when compared to our peer institutions
- Identifying a set of specific goals for furthering that vision
- Identifying the challenges that currently prevent these goals from being achieved
- Identifying concrete mechanisms and necessary resources, in terms of faculty hiring, research infrastructure, graduate education, and undergraduate education to address those challenges and allow us to achieve our goals
We also want to consider which investments would be most strategic, how these efforts relate to existing campus units, and how resources might be shared between statistics, data science, AI, and related areas to achieve economies of scale.
If you are interested in sharing your insights but are unable to attend the upcoming meeting, we welcome your input through the following submission channel:
