Announcing the 2021 CDH Senior Thesis Prize Winners

Three members of the Class of 2021 earned recognition for their work in the interdisciplinary area between computer science and the humanities.
We are excited to announce the winners of the 2021 Center for Digital Humanities Senior Thesis Prize! The award honors exceptional work that substantially engages with or contributes to the field of digital humanities. Students are nominated by their department.
Co-Winners
- Lauren McGrath (Anthropology), The Side Unseen (and accompanying essay, “Ethnographic Data Visualization as a Methodology to Visualize the Health Impacts of Structural Violence in Urban Philadelphia Communities”)
- William Ughetta (Computer Science), “The Old Bailey, U.S. Reports, and OCR: Benchmarking AWS, Azure, and GCP on 360,000 Page Images” (and accompanying software package, tigerocr)
Honorable Mention
- Masha Miura (African American Studies), “Seeking Safety in Surveillance: The Dangers of Data Sharing During the COVID-19 Pandemic”
