Events
Tues., Oct. 5, 6 pm: Talk and Film Screening with Mimi Ọnụọha (register)
Artist and researcher Mimi Ọnụọha will screen a short film commissioned by the IDA B. WELLS Just Data Lab. The event will be moderated by Ruha Benjamin (African American Studies). The CDH is proud to co-sponsor Ọnụọha's virtual residency at the Just Data Lab.
Wed., Oct. 6, noon: What Is "Data" in the Humanities? (register)
The first workshop in the Humanities Data Workshop Series, a joint initiative of the CDH and Princeton Research Data Service, will introduce participants to the challenges, contradictions and possibilities of working with data in the context of humanities scholarship. Note: registration is limited to Princeton affiliates.
Tues., Oct. 26, 4:30 pm: Machine Predictions and Synthetic Text: A Roundtable on Large Language Models in the Humanities (register)
Since it was published in March 2021, "On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots: Can Language Models Be Too Big?" has sparked impassioned conversations on the unintended consequences and potential harms of prominent natural language processing (NLP) projects. Co-authors Margaret Mitchell (AI researcher and scientist) and Angelina McMillan-Major (University of Washington) will be joined by Gimena del Rio Riande (University of Buenos Aires), Lauren F. Klein (Emory University), and Ted Underwood (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) to discuss the implications of the article for humanities research employing NLP methods. Moderated by Toma Tasovac (DARIAH-EU).

Funding
The CDH will accept applications for Seed Grants, Graduate Fellowships, Graduate Travel Grants, and University Administrative Fellowships on a rolling basis.
