"Year of Data" Presents: A Panel on Unsolved Data Problems

Can computer and data science answer the complex questions raised by humanities data?

Take a deep dive into the complexities of humanities data and discover innovative solutions to unsolved computational problems.

On Wednesday March 13, the Center for Digital Humanities, Department of Computer Science, and Center for Statistics and Machine Learning will host a unique cross-divisional panel discussion called “Unsolved Data Problems.” Three Princeton faculty - Meredith Martin (English), Marina Rustow (History) and Dan Trueman (Music) - will discuss some of Princeton’s landmark digital humanities projects, and the challenges they’ve faced when transforming historical, multilingual and experimental source material into data and code.

Projects discussed include the Princeton Prosody Archive, the Princeton Geniza Lab, and bitKlavier. Computer Science faculty Jennifer Rexford and Brian Kernighan will moderate the panel.

Aimed at faculty and students in the computer and data sciences, this may be of particular interest to researchers working in the fields of computer vision, natural language processing, machine learning, and audio/music engineering.

Unsolved Data Problems will take place in Computer Science 105, 4:30-5:30pm, with a light reception to follow.
