Meet our New Digital Humanities Developer, Nick Budak

I'm Nick Budak, the new Digital Humanities Developer at the CDH. I'm a self-taught developer with a degree in Asian Studies who is interested in building interactive, beautiful interfaces for DH projects. Lately I've been fascinated with the functional programming paradigm, especially in the context of functional reactive programming in modern JavaScript. Exciting progress is being made every day in the world of web development, and I hope to bring some cutting-edge tools and methods to the CDH.

I've just finished two years working at Lewis & Clark College in my hometown of Portland, OR as a Digital Projects Developer. Before Lewis & Clark, I was living in Xi'an, China and teaching English to undergraduates at Northwestern Polytechnical University. Xi'an is known for being the starting point of the Silk Road, and home to the Terracotta Army of emperor Qin Shi Huang.

In my spare time I enjoy short fiction, long-form journalism, tea, and adopting broken or obsolete electronics. I anticipate that my tenure at the CDH will come to an end once my office has been completely filled with VHS tapes and other lovable junk.

I've been having a great first few weeks at the CDH and am excited to get to work more with our amazing development team!
