What is digital mapping? What can digital humanities tools and methods teach us about representing geographical and spatial data? If you think digital mapping could enhance your research on any topic related to Eastern Europe and Russia, join us!

The Princeton-Herder Digital Humanities Summer Workshop will take place August 20-24, 2018 in Marburg, Germany. Activities will include hands-on practical experience with archival materials and digital tools, one-on-one project consultations, roundtable discussions, works-in-progress presentations, tours of Herder’s collections, social events, and excursions.

The Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe in Marburg, Germany is a member of the Leibniz Association. A center of Eastern European Studies and digital history, the Herder Institute is home to significant archival collections, including newspaper clippings, maps, photographs, and postcards.

Princeton faculty, postdocs, staff, graduate students and undergraduates are welcome to apply. We welcome applicants from all disciplines and divisions with interest in any area of East European Studies. Stipend will cover travel and lodging, and lunches during the workshop will be provided. Instruction will be in English. Experience with digital methods is not required.
